Who can enroll in BBC?

Unpaid family/friend caregivers or direct paid caregivers caring for someone with dementia, Alzheimer's, other cognitive impairments, or any other serious injury or illness. The Caregiver and the person being cared for need to be a resident of California.

or

Caregivers of Veterans with dementia, memory problems, post-traumatic stress disorder, a serious brain injury or any other serious injury or illness. The Caregiver must meet criteria and be willing to participate in the Caregiver support program in either  the Program of Comprehensive Assistance (PCAFC) or Program of General Caregiver Support Services (PGCSS) program. The Veteran who the Caregiver is caring for must be enrolled in VA Healthcare.

Marisol's Story

Marisol never thought of herself as a caregiver. She was Jose’s wife. When he needed more help, she gave it. But taking care of Jose who has Alzheimer’s, heart failure and diabetes meant she didn’t have any time for herself.

Theresa's Story

Theresa didn’t expect to care for her father, Perry, at this age. Perry had early onset dementia. Theresa was there to help. Work, family and caregiving took a toll on her. She wasn’t prepared for this new full-time job.

David’s childhood friend Jeff developed ALS in his 50s. Dave didn’t hesitate to step in. He helped Jeff dress, fixed meals, and ran errands. David was exhausted. He was not taking care of his own health. He didn’t realize he had become a caregiver for Steve.
